Thursday Thirteen #36

Last week I did 13 places I'd visit again. This week, I thought I'd do 13 places I wouldn't go back to, but I feel the need for an explanation/disclaimer first. It's not that I don't like these places, it's more of a "BTDT-have the t-shirt" reason. So here are:
13 Places I've Been To But Wouldn't Return To
(without a good reason)

1. San Francisco, CA - I was born in SF and lived there for nine years. Even after I moved away, I returned often to visit relatives, still do occasionally. But, I do not like the climate, so if all my relatives ever pick up and leave, I'll probably never go there again.

2. Legoland, CA - It was nice to go and see it, but it really is a place for kids and now that mine are adults, I don't see any reason to return.

3. Legoland, Denmark - same reason as above. It was nice to go there once, but there are other places in Denmark I'd rather see.

4. Reno, NV - I'm not a gambler, nor am I a fan of Western American history. I love the climate, but there are so many other places in Nevada I'd rather see.

5. Wendover, NV - Unfortunately, this isn't one of them. (see #5) There's nothing here except casinos and hotels.

6. Rock Springs, WY - My mother and all of her siblings, and a majority of her mother's side of the family were born here. I go back regularly to visit graves and dig for more family history, but that's the only reason I do.

7. Pinehurst, NC - I'm not a golfer, so golf courses are nothing more than open space to me. Often they are beautiful open space, but since I can't really stroll on them, enough said. I was here for a conference in December once. It was beautiful and I loved exploring the historic town and surroundings, but, as I said above, BTDT.

8. Atlantic City, NJ - I'm not a gambler and I'm not fond of beaches. I'm also not fond of humidity. I can enjoy shows and other entertainments in Las Vegas - without the beach or humidity.

9. Barstow, CA - When I was in the army, I was stationed at Fort Irwin. As much as I love the desert, there was little else to do once you exhausted the local attractions. Even after I left there, I returned occasionally because family lived there. They're all gone now.

10. Mt. Rushmore, SD - I've been here a number of times. It's nice to see up close and learn how it was done, but that's all there is. Another case of BTDT.

11. Flagstaff, AZ - I spent two years at Northern Arizona University and loved every minute of it. Except for driving through it on my way to southern Arizona, I don't have any reason to return.

12. Nashville, TN - I'm not a fan of country music. I don't rabidly dislike it, but I have different tastes. This is another place where the climate is not very friendly.

13. Sun Valley, ID - I went there for a conference and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. I drove through beautiful country to get there and took lots of pictures. This is another place that falls into the BTDT category.

I guess someone needs to like deserts, right? :-)
My dad lives outside of Las Vegas and I hate the climate there. I just am not good with the heat. I love the beach and love living in cool, breezy Cape Cod. I'm thinking you may find it too cold and occasionally too humid there though!
I haven't been to most of the places you mentioned (except CA), but one place I would never return to was Casper, WY. Ugh. Hated it there. And it's ugly.
Nice TT. Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks for visiting today. I totally agree about Mt. Rushmore. My husband says it's on his list of places he really wants to visit but I just don;t see the appeal of driving for days to go look at a mountain. Maybe I just lack sentimentality.

I need to go to Legoland, though taking the kids might make it more fun!

Happy TT!

Some of these places I've never been to, but some of these I agree with--like Mount Rushmore. I'm truly glad I've seen it once--it was DEFINITELY worth seeing--but I see no reason to go back.

I'm a little surprised about you not liking the SF climate--I thought it was just about perfect! (I've only been there one time, though.)

Thanks so much for visiting and commenting on my TT!

See I'm really looking forward to San Francisco this year for RWA.

I've always wanted to go there, and I'm used to the colder climate. I'm Canadian. :)

that was a really great TT. You have been all over the place... I am jealous even though you didn't like all of these places. haha

Many of these places I'd like to visit. I guess I don't get out much. LOL! Thanks for stopping my mine. Happy TT!

I am amazed at how much we have in common--except the beach thing. Actually, I don't really like to BE on the beach, but I do love to watch the ocean. I have never been to most of the places on your list, but I am not a gambler, and to be honest, if family didn't live far away, and if Ornery didn't travel for business and want me to go, I'd just stay right here in my familiar corner of the world! Great TT, once again.

Gosh, my list is a bit longer.... I do love San Francisco. So, see? We are different!

Happy TT!

I didn't know you were in the army.

I think the only place on your list that I've been to is SF, but I do love that one. Don't like the fog and the cold much, but love the city.

Thanks for stopping by. Enjoyed seeing where to and where not to go. I still might go to a few, because I do like casino's. Happy TT!

I would go back to Pinehurst again and again and again...but I'm a golfer. And I only live about an hour and a half from there. I still have only been there once!

I would like to see Mt Rushmore one day...perhaps you saved me a couple of other trips though!

I'd love to see the Leggolands and I'd love to see Mt. Rushmore but not as much as I'd like to return to the Emerald Isle and stay there. Thanks for your thoughts on these places.

Some places you have just seen enough I too have some I don't want to see again unless it would be necessary.

Denise, can't say about any of the places you mention. Would you believe I haven't been to any of them! I've always thought San Francisco might be nice... Thanks for visiting me! :)
