A quick post today to showcase what has become a holiday tradition for many.
I've read that Tchaikovsky wasn't overly fond of his (likely) most famous creation. When he accepted the commission to write it, he supposedly didn't really want to, although another source says the characters began to grow on him as he wrote.
The original story of The Nutcracker was a german story by E. T. A. Hoffman (The Nutcracker and the Mouse King). Alexandre Dumas later re-wrote it slightly some years later, and it was the Dumas version that Tchaikovsky used to create his ballet.This Day in History: The Nutcracker premiered on this day at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg.
