The War of the Worlds
It was on this day that Orson Welles' famous radio broadcast adaptation of H.G. Wells' novel, The War of the Worlds, caused widespread panic throughout the United States. The fictional account of an invasion of the earth by Martians was broadcast to sound like a live news report. Although it started with a disclaimer and there was one in the middle and the end, many people either didn't hear it or ignored it, instead believing that the earth was being overrun by aliens.

Today's Question: In what year did this broadcast occur?
