The Treaty of Paris
The American Revolution formally comes to an end on this day when representatives of the United States, Great Britain, Spain and France sign the Treaty of Paris. The British recognized American independence and agreed to remove all of its troops from American soil. Borders were established for the United States. America agreed to allow British troops to leave, pay all debts to Britain, and not to persecute loyalists remaining in America.

This painting by Benjamin West commemorated the event, however it remains unfinished because the British delegation refused to be painted. Now, how petty is that?

This Day in History: The Treaty of Paris was signed on September 3 in what year?
