Higher Learning
The oldest and largest university in Europe was established on this day in 1303. Originally for ecclesiastical studies, it has since grown into a world-renown university with 21 faculties and 138,000 students. In 1431, a tax on wine was instituted to fund it, although I'm sure it's funded by more than that today. On the other hand, considering where it is, a wine tax still might raise enough revenue.

This Day in History: What is the name of this University and where is it?
