Pope Stephen?
When was the last time we had a Pope named Stephen? What? You don't remember? Well, maybe it's because it's been nearly a thousand years since Stephen IX died in 1058.

And there hasn't been another one since. I'm not particularly superstitious, but Stephen doesn't seem to have been a particularly good name for Popes. Only one of them lasted longer than 5 years. One Stephen died after only 13 days - before he could even be ordained. For that reason, he's not listed on the official list of Popes kept by the Vatican.

This Day in History: January 24 was not a good day to be a Pope named Stephen. Two Popes, Stephen III and Stephen IV died on this day. What years did they die?
